Comments:
This is definitely the most fun contest of the entire year!
A huge QRN source has popped up in the neighborhood since last week. It's
a very
loud roaring sound, about 100 KHz wide, that slides up and down on 20
meters.
Finally, it chased me off 20 much earlier than I had planned, because
sigs were
getting too weak to hear through the noise. Usually, I like to milk those
pw
signals as 20 closes, but not this time.
Every year, after this contest, I keep telling myself that I have to put
up
separate antennas for 80 and 160. Right now I just have one sloper with a
relay
at the end that adds a 160 pigtail. Without two antennas, I can't do so2r
on
those two bands, which is a significant limitation. It's pretty hard when
you
are on an 80x120 city lot. Maybe next year I'll use the 40m beam for
receiving
on 160. It hears pretty well, and with some tricky switching, should
enable the
so2r deal. That's a whole year away, though, so as usual, I'll probably
forget
about it.
Thanks for all the qso's, and especially, all the moves.
See you next weekend, and in the Sprints.
