Gads. Just off plane from Rome and I find THIS stuff from Norton. I was
going to vote for him, but may withdraw my support if he intends to go
forward with this vertical antenna nonsense.

At the moment, things looking 100% to host the meeting next Sunday. My
address:

20220 THAGARD WAY
YORBA LINDA

Easy to get to off the 91 freeway; either the Weir Canyon exit (from the
east) or Imperial exit from the south and west.

Call for directions (714) 970-8010. Shall we say 1 PM??

Subject: [SCCC] SCCC Meeting on September 25th

MEETING

Keep your calendars open on Saturday, September 25th, at noon, for the
Southern
California Contest Club special fall equinox celebration and meeting. This
will
be held just after the TRW Swap Meet.

Keep checking your E-mail for the meeting location and directions.
Tentatively,
we will meet at the Yorba Linda home of Jim Neiger, N6TJ-ZD8Z. Jim travels
frequently and his schedule is not certain at the present time. The backup
meeting location will be my QTH in Topanga.

If the meeting is at Jim's house, I am contemplating arranging installation
of
Jim's vertical antenna that his XYL, Marilyn, has reportedly been wanting to
see gracing the abode. We will need a team of 8 or so strong hands for the
job.
Four or five will hold Jim down and keep him from thwarting the job. The
remaining few can put the antenna up. With the recent loss of the W6KP site,
and apparent impending end to K6RO's giant station, an N6TJ-vertical
installation might end up being one of our preeminent contest QTHs before
long.

PROGRAM

Seriously, let's talk about plans for the fall. What have you got in mind?

Also, what's happening to contesting and even ham radio in general. Is
everybody leaving Southern California?

N6AA ARRL DIRECTOR CAMPAIGN

Although the swelling has gone down that resulted from landing on my head
after
falling off the roller coaster, the desire to become an ARRL Director that
immediately followed remains. I'm an official candidate, and have spent a
lot
of time recently, visiting radio clubs and campaigning. It certainly gives
one
a different view of the hobby than one gets from hanging out with only
contesters and DXers. If any of you haven't seen my flyer, the information
is
at www.kkn.net/n6aa.

CALIFORNIA QSO PARTY

You will find the CQP on the bands one week after the upcoming SCCC meeting.
I
don't normally do much in the CQP, but his year I'll host a little multi-op.
There's a group of Topanga amateurs who got their licenses for the expressed
purpose of doing disaster communications. They practice using their
(handheld)
radios on a Sunday night net. Some of them actually desire to become better
operators. At a recent meeting, one of them mentioned contests as being a
good
way to improve, and that he had been on in the NAQP. I volunteered to host
whoever wants to come over and see if we can try operating without using a
separate logger. If you hear N6AA operating a little less efficiently than
you
might expect, please go easy on the op.

FEEDBACK

If you have a preference regarding the September meeting site, please let me
know. If you think you will attend please let me know. If you have anything
you
would like brought up at the meeting, please let me know.

Thanks.

Dick, N6AA
