I just copied this from the YCCC website. Evidently, this virus was
discovered in the Philadelphia area and this warning came from the FRC. I have
decided to not take any chances and I will move my operations to VP9/W6PH for both
ARRLs. "Standby the W3, go ahead the 6". 73, Kurt, W6PH/KL7 (-30F this

The YankeeClunker worm, which has numerous aliases, is
set to deliver its first destructive payload in mid to
late February.
This worm is believed to be targeting for
infection anywhere from 200 to 2000 computers
apparently targeting only the New England area
of the United States .
The worm is programmed to destroy files with the extension
type .BIN as well as various other files specifically
related to ham radio operations in the New England area.
It is recommended that amateur radio operators in the
New England area refrain from all radio related activities
between the dates of February 15 through March 15, 2006.
Quoting a noted virus/spyware expert located in the Eastern
Pennsylvania area: "Whether you believe that you are infected
or not, New England amateurs must take precautionary steps
now, just in case. All New England amateur operators are
urged to unplug all radio equipment and detach their antennas.
Any and all software relating to amateur radio and contesting
should immediately be deleted from your computers prior to
February 18, 2006. Operation of any amateur radio station
in New England should not under any circumstances
re-commence until after March 10, 2006."
