Hi Tony,

I haven't done the January NAQPs seriously in a few years and haven't
been on much at all lately, so somebody else may be able to comment
being more familiar with current band conditions. The January NAQPs
are definitely more active than the August NAQPs. Since it gets dark
early, you should try and have most of your offtime all finished up
before it gets dark (especially if 10 and 15 are very slow). The
best way to get a high multiplier count is asking mults to QSY to
another band. If you work say VE5MX on 20m and you're fairly sure
that 15m is still open, ask him to QSY to an open frequency on
15m. If you complete that QSO, ask him to try 40m if you think it's
open. The NAQP is all about moving multipliers around as much as
possible and most ops will happily move for you when asked. If
you're not comfortable moving mults, I would suggest just CQing and
running guys on the band that seems to be open best. You should be
able to get a nice mult count simply by CQing and running. Of
course, you should still tune up and down the band periodically since
many guys just CQ themselves and don't tune around.

If you like, I can email you one of my previous NAQP CW logs to examine.
