Tim,
Are you using a tower or could put up a 30 ft or longer single metal
pole? I have a vertical and dipole for 40/30/80 and a sloper for
40/80/160. The sloper, an Alpha Delta DX-B, works much better than the
dipole or vertical on all the low bands. See:
http://www.alphadeltacom.com/dxb_i.htm
Either conditions were worse or there weren't as many stations in the CW
as there was in the SSB contest last month. I was S&P and worked every
EU station I heard calling CQ even if it took several calls for some.
Problem was, I couldn't hear too many. They were on the air, as I could
hear the Big Guns on the East Coast running one EU station after another
that I could not hear at all answering them. No HL's heard here either,
but for AS/OC did work a HS, a couple of BY's and VR's, a JD1, 9M6, DU,
T88, E51, ZL, VK, 3D2. Did hear XW1A in a big pile up. Couldn't work
him before the QSB took him out.
Did work several AF stations. I had been chasing 5A7A since they got on
the air. Worked them right away on 40 and 80 CW&SSB but couldn't hear
them on any other bands. Then in the contest they came through on 15.
