Before list this on eBay, I'm taking best offers until Dec 17th 8 p.m..
Highest offer gets it, if he flaky out second highest etc.

Pick up if you want to see it work, or meet somewhere within 50 miles.

3 tube Alpha 78, gummy paint, fair condition, looks OK at a distance.

Recent vacuum relay replacement, reconditioned and tuned up bandpass capacitors.
Grid drive mod done. 1984 CQ switching mod done. 240-volts
Original plate choke and coupling capacitor, I recommend replacing them for 12 meters per web suggestions.

I'm tired of all this RF setting things on fire.... 40 meter radial burned a hole in roof shingles.

Amp puts out 500-700 watts on CW per the watt meter, which read the same as my Daiwa into dummy load.
Output seems lower on 160, maybe due to the dinky plate coupling capacitors they used. It is rated for 1KW DC with 50-65% efficiency on CW.
With both buttons in it runs the SSB voltage on CW and probably put out illegal power. 10 meter mod done.

I removed the 8874s and hooked them into an old Eico diode type tube tester with clip leads. Using a generic shunt setting I adjusted the first tube for a reading of 70 on 0-100 scale. The other two read 68. Actually the first on I test was the hole I used to melt a transistor radio accidently left on top of the amp. I thought for sure it was cooked. This just says they are all about equal, not a transconductance or percent good test.

The amp seems to tune up at the manual settings and as I recall I got the better power transformer when I bought it.

Call me between 9 am and 8 pm if you are serious, I can send pictures, see it a tiny pix on QRZ.
