[SCCC] Logging Software

I think there are a few options, especially if you are interested in DXCC,
CQ, IOTA, and County Awards.

1. DX4Win pros: country database support from Jim AD1C. Cons: Other than
Jim on the reflector, support seems to be limited. Program seems overly
complicated and has not kept up with modern technologies.
2. DXLab pros: appears to have timely updates and support from the
reflector. From a software standpoint, seems to employ more modern
technologies and user interfaces. The same folks on the N1MM reflector seem
to be on the DXlab reflector. Cons: you don't get AD1C's country database,
but on the other hand, the country file does proactively get updated.
3. DXbase - I have no experience with this, but a friend of mine uses it
and likes it. He is into DXCC.

I'm currently using LogWindow. While I like the clean and simple user
interface, the program has simply not kept up with the current state of the
art. I cannot recommend it. I will probably switch to DXLab, which I have
running on another machine in parallel with LogWindows.

I've used N3FJP's PA QSO Party software for two years and found it to be
pretty good. I'm sure his other programs are similar in quality.

I did not consider the price of the software, since it is small in
comparison with other shack expenditures. Saving a few bucks for long term
headaches is simply not worth it. Especially when you are trusting your
logbook to the software.

Logging software is somewhat of a personal, subjective choice - once you
have narrowed the field to a few programs.

Good Luck and 73,

Subject: [SCCC] Logging Software

Good afternoon,

I'm curious what general logging software SCCCers are using (general, not
contest logging) and what they like about it. I've always used a good old
ARRL paper log but am thinking about going to software. Am testing N3FJP
this afternoon for example.

Thanks,
Dennis NE6I
