Comments:

After my expedition to Kern was canceled do to no time
to prepare I decided to
do the contest from my home QTH. There were lots of
firsts this weekend. First
time I did CQP from home, first time I hosted a
Multi-Single entry, first
contest for KI6LLD (father in law), first ever QSO's
for KI6SXH (sister). I
decided that rather than try to be competitive that I
would provide a positive
contesting experience for the new contesters. As for
my sister Cindy, I had
operated as a County expedition from her ranch in Kern
county for the last 2
years. The expedition was her view into ham radio and
when I asked if I could
use the ranch again this year she said yes but that
she wanted to participate.
I told her she needed to have her General ticket to
take part. Two weeks later
(just last month) she called to announce she had
passed her Tech and General in
the same sitting. When the expedition got canceled she
drove down to Vista to be
part of the team. W6YX, the Stanford club station
became her first QSO ever. She
got the hang of things and couldn't be pulled from the
chair until she was too
tired to stay awake.

20M was strange. We could hardly find stations to work
but those we found were
loud and clear both ways. 15M and 10M never opened up
while we we on. At 6:41
Zulu Sunday I finally had the radio to myself so I
tried to pick things up on
40 and 80 and by then I was tired from coaching. My
best run was 43 Q's at
56/hr. I lasted till 8:55 Zulu and pulled the plug
until the Sunday battle with
20M.

About a third of the score from last year but a raging
success.
AD6ZJ, Loren
