Yep, we had the same problem.  We put in "SDG" for the ARRL Section and the
program was "happy" that we were in CA.

I struggled with that, too. Worse, being a county expedition, I had no idea 
what ARRL Section I was in, so I typed in "LAX". When I re-started the 
program, N1MM told me I was, um, "in state". Or something like that...
