After hovering around 70 this week, flux rose to 76 Friday evening on the
strength of Group 1029, with a SSN of 30 on Friday and 28 by Sunday evening.
That was generally good for 20M and 15M, but a coronal hole's howling solar
wind well above 400 km/s and strong aurora combined to make the lower bands
very rough here. Bz went deep minus for a big chunk of Saturday.
The above data came from VA7ST.
I could hear European sigs on 40M both evenings, but only worked EA7LL.
Ran the antenna up to 90 feet - worked him on the first call. Drop
the antenna back down to 50 feet. No luck.
Broke a new DXCC record for me: 101 countries in 9 hours.
Last time it took 17 hours -- CQ WW CW Contest two years ago.
Total Countries worked in this contest was 128.
10 meters -- Worked two JA's beaming 220 degrees. Worked Several ZL's
and A35A. 14 countries on 10.
15 meters -- almost worked 100 countries (98). New for me on 15 were
5H3EE, JW7QIA, 3W1M and ST2KSS.
Worked 37 Zones - missing 17, 22 and 36.
Japan - worked 151 Q's. Almost like the old days. Heard K7JA in
there working lots of JA's.
Glad to see W6AQ on, looks like he was working lots of stuff.
Was honored to work N4EE, the C6APR memorial station, on 20M.
I thought of the C6APR lads often this weekend. A tragic loss for
four families and the worldwide radiosport community.
Next -- CQ WW CW -- hope for lots of action.
Rig: IC-7800, Acom 2000A, SteppIR 4 element with 1 element for 40. Antenna at 50 feet.
The antenna sure worked better at 50 feet than 40. Will leave the antenna at this
height for a while to see what happens at the City Hall. So far, no one has called.
