Hot on the heels of SCCC's top finish in the ARRL August UHF Contest inaugural club competition comes the official word that we've done it again! The Southern California Contest Club has taken top club competition honors in the ARRL September VHF QSO Party. Our more than 2-1/2 million points outdistanced #2 North East Weak Signal Society's 1.7 million points by quite a margin. Leading the charge was our intrepid rover team, which took the top eight "traditional" rover spots in the country. N6NB not only headed this list but was responsible for getting microwave equipment into the hands of many SCCC entrants. Thank you, Wayne! The top low-power fixed-station score in the western half of the country belonged to SCCC member K6VCR in San Diego. Thanks also to the W6TE and N6TEB teams and others for their efforts to provide additional contacts and multipliers to our operators.
We won't know the official results of the January VHF Sweepstakes until this summer, but rest assured that the Southern California Contest Club put in a momunental effort likely to make us not only competitive among club-aggregates but hard to beat.
We invite more SCCC members to get involved in VHF-and-above contests. You don't need giant antennas, you won't get stacks of QSL cards from the bureau, an expedition can mean heading to a local mountaintop or ridge, and you get to sleep at night without missing much. Any band or mode you can activate will help, and more fixed-station activity will give all those rovers someone to work between stops. Several of our rovers would also welcome drivers and second-ops to join them on the next road trip. If you want to jump in with both feet, that's one way to do it.
Bring any questions you may have to the Feb. 14 SCCC meeting at N6HC's home; several of our VHF+ ops will be there.
73,
Marty N6VI
