Memorable moments...
-160... Working NH2T (N2NL) very close to sunrise here. He peaked up
for 2 minutes, through the plasma-TV junk, and we made the contact.
-75m... Working RL3A via long path. Also, NOT working any others LP,
although I heard 3 or 4 of them in NH2Ts pileup.
-40m... Phone is ALMOST fun now... with the BC realignment,
political changes, and our phone expansion down to 7128. I worked
several JT, even more HS, a bunch of DU, and a TON of BY and
YB. Thirty years ago, we were thrilled to have one HS call in,
split, while we CQed toward JA ... maybe one or two each of DU and
YB... and of course, ZERO BYs back then. Even the Hainan Dragon
stayed away this weekend (at least mostly).
-20m... Working Marko N5ZO at RC9O early the first evening... then
never finding him again, on any band even though he made 4,000 contacts.
-15m... Wall-to-wall Europeans, from 21.2 to 21.447, both mornings,
for hours. Wow. Real decent S&P rates. I CQed very little in those times.
-10m... Thinking Ten was going to pop open big-time, any minute
now... but ... it didn't. It was fun vacuuming up all those South
Americans who kept popping up on my second receiver (for you
propagation wonks, most of them were workable on my 6 element Yagi at
150ft, but were mostly inaudible on my 5 element Yagi at 45ft).
-and the biggest disappointment:
NOT working the SCCC gang at A73A on any band... never heard them
anywhere, until I went looking for them on Forty, in the last 15
minutes of the contest; I did find them on 7083 (yes weak), but the
operator was not listening up for us. End of story.
