I have been looking forward to the Ten Meter Contest in order to try out a new antenna I have been thinking about for a long while. I live in an antenna restricted community and have been using stealth vertical antennas that no one can see.
I had hoped to develop a "gain" antenna based upon the Spiderbeam design where the reflector and director elements are "V" shaped. The whole array is supposed to act like a 4 element Yagi.
You can see pictures of my antenna at http://www.savvyborrower.com/TenMeter.htm
I was unable to spend consistent time and the antenna acted crazy on Sunday morning and I had to shut down. It was the time when I should have been able to work Europe. As to results, I was able to get S9 reports from the East Coast, something I never have been able to get with verticals. When I tried running, I was able to approach 60 Q's per hour, something I never have been able to before.
I was not serious about trying to get a big score, as I could have done by running JAs, or W's for that matter. I just felt like staying on CW and seeing how well the antenna would work. I was able to spend about 8 hours here and there.
