The results of ARRL VHF Sweepstakes, held
in January, are now online. SCCC won its
seventh club gavel in a VHF contest, some-
thing that would have been considered
impossible only a few years ago.

SCCC had about 2.4 megapoints, easily
winning the medium category. The closest
competition was the Mt. Airy (PA) VHF
Club, with about 2 megapoints in the
unlimited category. The Packrats turned
in 66 logs to SCCC's 17, but our score
per log was much higher.

Southern California stations dominated
many individual categories. The overall
top rover score was posted by the team
of K9JK (visiting from Illinois) and N6MU,
using John's car and a station provided by
N6NB. Under the 50% rule, the score counts
for SCCC. The rest of the top five in the
rover category were all SCCC members. In
the limited rover category (the four lowest
bands), W6YLZ ran away from the eastern com-
petition. And in unlimited KE6HPZ won by
a huge margin. Among single operator fixed
stations, N6NB won the QRP portable category
and set a new national record by a wide margin,
outscoring not only all other QRP stations but
also every SOLP station in the country.

It has been a good run for the SCCC's
rover-based strategy.

73,
Wayne
