Call Sign Used: W6RO
Associated Radio Amateurs of Long Beach
from Recreation Park, Long Beach, CA
Operator(s): NC6Q, K6EM, ? Chris, a new guy
Category: 3A
(also with a 40m SSB station and 20m SSB station + free VHF/UHF)
Section: LAX
Band/Station: 40m CW
Antenna: 2 element 40m Moxon
up about 20 feet
I forgot and used the wrong tree from last year! :( --lost some height.
This Moxon antenna provided the F/B ration (20 to 30 db) to allow a 40m SSB
station to operate about 200 feet away (on inverted-V) without either one
suffering interference. Just a great setup.
QSOs: 128 with casual operating
Pts: 256
Bettered my personal best from last year.
Soapbox: First time for Field Day had the laptop keying the radio with the
N3FJP FD logging software. Practicing CW all year paid off. Everyone seemed
to send much slower this year. :) Relied too much on my copying with paper
and pencil which is nearly automatic. I MUST develop the skill to
touch-type directly into the laptop to increase my rate, but didn't have the
confidence most of the time. Very noticeable this time, but many times did input
directly to laptop so I had a taste of what is possible. Also, generator
kept dying. I want to build a better setup for switching my radio and laptop
(with DC to AC converter) for when we lose generator power. I operated
several times on gel cell/battery power while all others where quiet. Cool.
Can't wait until next year.
