Comments:
Great conditions! I really liked the 15m opening to Europe Sunday morning. I
was even able to run for a short time into Europe on 15m... my first time
ever being able to do that.
At the start of the contest my wife came in to notify me that my neighbor to
our rear had come over to complain of TVI. I spent the next hour discussing
what it was that I was doing, my FCC privileges, and then we tested his
equipment. Bottom line: I told him I would avoid 10m/15m high power while my
antenna was pointed at his house which unfortunately is towards JA!
Everything below 17m is clear of TVI, even while at legal limit. There is no
TVI on any band when not pointing the yagi's between 290-340 degrees.
I felt really strong into Japan and Asiatic Russia, often able to get right
through the competing stations. Europe was surprising, last year I felt weak
into Europe during the morning 20m opening, even against other So Cal
stations... this year was a different story. While not able to compete with
the east coast stations, I felt well heard into Eu, often times beating out
some of the smaller east coast stations and holding my own in California.
Last year I had a 40m rotatable dipole at 70' and felt weak against the
competition. This year a 2nd element at the same height honestly made me
feel much more competitive.
80m was fun with the new inverted-v at 54' apex and 12' ends, I was able to
run the Pacific Rim during our sunrise. 160m was something I had not tried
during any contest previous to the CQ WW 160M CW. I tuned my 2 element 40m
yagi and got some mults!
N6ED and N6QQ @N6MXU are a couple of SCCC members who I heard routinely
beating my out in the pileups. Last year they dominated me... but this year
I was usually one QSO behind them, just like last weekend.
N1SNB/CY0 was neat. I happened to sneak in Sunday afternoon through a huge
pile with a lucky, ahem, well timed third call on 15m.
I outscored my 2010 ARRL DX SSB SOAB(A) HP entry by over two fold. I worked
107 unique countries.
JA accounted for 27.7% of my QSOs, PY 6.5%, and LU 5.4%.
Repair Notes:
Replace defective 10m balun while operating over 350 watts.
Help neighbor diagnose his TVI issue.
