[SCCC] SCCC's record-setting Field Days

Hi, Tim.

One of my favorite recollections from this event is having sat AD6C, famous for his ability to copy very faint code through noise, in front of the 80m CW station for the night without telling him that we were running QRP. We found the next morning that he had produced a truly impressive number of contacts. He remarked how tough it had been, and we told him that was really great for having had just five watts. His surprised and rather negative response - which I'm not sure I can print here - was pretty funny to the rest of us. Man, he really got the job done, though, and was even ready to smile for the camera by the time we took the photo around the tower.

Another was coming up early Saturday morning to see Neal K4EA (then AE6E), who had volunteered to stay Friday night on the hill to guard the equipment, all excited. It turns out he had been trolling the bands in the evening and came upon a massive pile-up. It was ST2SA/ST0 in Southern Sudan, a rare one indeed. Neal gave one call with five watts and broke the pile-up to make the contact. We knew then that our stations were going to rock!

Marty N6VI

I just stumbled upon this article from N6MB while doing a Google search of
our club. I really enjoyed the history... some other members might not have
seen this yet or have forgotten?
