[SCCC] WPX CW question

I am having fun - sort of - trying to operate in my first mainstream CW
contest (i.e. not SKCC). I have 35 or so Q's on 20 meters & 15 meters.
I'm using logging software (N1MM), but I don't have it hooked up to the
radio yet, so I'm keying everything with a paddle at abt 15 WPM. Most
people are slowing a bit to give me the serial number - think I am getting
most.
But I feel that my log has a lot of errors in it, esp where I may have sent
the wrong serial number - say didn't remember to send one more than listed
on the screen.
My question is ... since I'm just "playing" and getting my feet wet, is it
worse for me to refrain from sending my log, or send it with errors in it? I
could have a negative score if there are penalties for mismatches!
Overall, I have to say it's not as scary as I expected it would be. A year
or so of working on the traffic nets has got my copying at 25 or so. If I
listen awhile I can usually get someone's call & exchange number right.
