[SCCC] 6M activity in DM23?

Yes, that's the "Black Mountain" I was referring to as well, a few of the local
"groups" here in San Diego still have repeaters on the site, it is just barely
in the lower right hand corner of DM23, just shy of 1900' ASL depending on which
point you're on and under which towers.
The problem is that there are all kinds of generally negelected commercial, ham
and private systems running there, in addition to what some have called "Pirate"
gear (high power GMRS repeaters, ham repeaters being used for commercial and FRS
style use for cross border comms, even analog TV (yes, really).
Because it's in the middle of essentially nowhere, and not near any metro area
(on this side of the border anyway) everyone gets away without keeping their
stuff clean.
I have operated from there as well a couple of times too, not worth the effort
if you're looking for points. If you're trying for weak signal it's a mess as
well .....
Surprised Scott hasn't chimed in already as well :-)
There are better places to go in DM23, away from that hill, especially if
working 6 meters is really the goal ..

Different Black Mountain. Yes, there's one in SD County. My QSL from N6MI
for last year just says "Imperial County, CA" on it. I worked 'em on both 6
and 2 meters from here in San Diego, so they must have been up fairly high.
Go to www.n6mi.com. This guy does some *serious* VHF grid square
operations. On the site he says the 2011 DM23 operation was from the
Chocolate Mountains - which are north and west of Yuma.
For the June VHF test, I also usually hear and work K9WZB on 6 meters. He's
in Lake Havasu (DM24). No idea what path that is, either! 73 - Jim, K6ZH

Isn't Black Mountain in San Diego? I've been at the top of it before. Or is
there another in Imperial County?

N6MI was there last year - as I recall on "Black Mountain" somewhere in the
eastern part of Imperial County. He was very strong here in San Diego -
couldn't figure out why because I sure can't work Yuma directly on 6 meters
from here!

Sounds like fun. Does anyone know of a good spot to operate from in DM23?
