Two more ideas:
Walmart has a mobile wifi system called Internet on the Go. It's from
Trutech and nearly the same as theirs, but the big attraction is that
your time doesn't expire at the end of the month, so it's very useful
when you only need it occasionally.
And similar to pcAnywhere and GoToMyPC, both of which I have used for
years, there is also Logmein which has a free account that I use all
the time. I am not sure what level of security it gives, though ...
read the site. The very neat thing about this system is that if you
have one active computer on a LAN, and other computers on the LAN
have wake-on-network capability, you can actually turn on powered-off
computers remotely to access them. So via my 24/7 computer that I use
to monitor the solar system and run a couple of PSK monitoring apps,I
can turn on my main computer remotely.
