[SCCC] Our NV QTH

Gang - I finally got a club callsign for the "Goldfield Radio Club": KG7NV
(for Goldfield, Nevada). It came a couple of days too late for SS SSB, but
I used it a bit for CQ WW CW. We had family visiting for T'giving, so I had
little time to operate.

What I have at the moment is a TH-3 at about 35 feet (on Rohn 45) with a CDR
rotator. And I can put up either a G5RV or a combo 40-80 inverted vee using
a rope on a pulley. I'm using an IC-746 rig.

Thinking ahead: our QTH is in Esmeralda County - very rare = good
opportunity for 7QP [I placed 3rd overall LP earlier this year].
We are in DM17 - a rare grid square. I have nothing on 6 meters yet, but
"coming soon." Good potential for June VHF.
NV isn't as rare as it used to be in contests, but there is potential for
NAQP and SS.
The QTH is pretty good - high plain (not hilltop), and very quiet.
We do have 220V to the house, and we have used it once for 7QP (with N7CW,
K0YW, and "Harvey's trailer" in 2009) using Bud's equipment, including his
Alpha amp.

So, "what would you do?" I'm interested in thoughts about doing a 'modest'
contest station setup. I can imagine doing some multi/single contesting
from Goldfield. None of the antennas I have now would work with high power.
But as you know I've always been a 100-watt guy!

We left there a couple of days ago and have Winterized the house. We will
be back in the Spring (we don't "do snow!").

73 - Jim, K6ZH
