Bob, WB6SLC has access to a supply of 10kW generators of Chinese manufacture
for $1000, picked up in Torrance, CA.  They're not Hondas, or Yamahas even,
but ours fired right up on the first try and has yet to fail.  I can provide
additional details, and a connection to Bob, for anyone interested.
