[SCCC] Noise Reduction (NR)

Let me elaborate on which Noise Blanker (NB.....NOT NR)) function to use on
the K3
to try to reduce QRN that the Noise Reduction feature of K3, won't help
reduce.
When we got clobbered with S9+ line noise in CQP at our Fallbrook portable
site
all NR settings were useless so I tuned on the NB function and you will
notice that
the Main A VFO Knob has a DSP NB mode and the B VFO knob has the I.F. mode
of blanking.
Set the VFO B knob so that blanker is OFF ( It will be useless with all the
buckshot splatter )
Since the VFO A mode has the advantage of using the roofing filter, you
will stand a chance of reducing the noise and not get buckshot distortion
from the stations on the band that are outside the roofing filter bandwidth
so you can at least get some relief from VFO A Knob selections without too
much distortion
of stations you are trying to hear.
Maybe some other SCCC members have radios with similar DSP features. If
not, save up for a K3
and enjoy more of the contests if you can't practically get rid of your QRN
sources
