The bottom line on this discussion is the Prime Directive of W6SX.  Do  
what you have fun doing.  If you have fun using spots, operating single  band, 
SO2R, operating QRP, or low power, do what you enjoy doing.  I enjoy  
comparing my scores with other stations in my geographical area who are  similarly 
equipped and operate in a similar category.  (To me SO1R is a  category!)

PS:  There is no such thing as an unmanageable pileup.  It is up  to the 
CQing station to manage it.
