And I would add that it is a great way for hams who have never tried
contesting before to experience it for the first time. Hopefully some of
them will enjoy it enough that they will try their hand in some of the more
traditional contests in the future.

Field Day has plenty of room for experienced contesters to run the table
(and as Marty points out, SCCC has done so on more than one occasion) or to
be very casual and introduce others to a bit of a taste of what contesting
is about.

Let's all go out and have fun, and make some contacts this weekend!

Field Day is whatever you want it to be and, as history shows, SCCC and its
predecessor for some of us, the West Valley ARC, have won nationally
whatever it was we were competing for.

That said, Field Day is not an adjudicated contest. Logs are not compared
(because logs are not submitted), and there is no penalty for failing to
copy the received exchange accurately (or at all). Any discipline in that
regard is self-imposed, and bravo to those who hold their operating to such
a standard.

Good luck to all of you this weekend. I will be mentoring and leading a
group of LAFD volunteer Hams with little collective experience on HF or in a
contest-like environment. Stay hydrated!

73,

Marty N6VI
