OMG Do I luuuuv me some RTTY
The band were surprisingly good for a flux # of 75 and a spot # so low it
couldn't buy tobacco. 20 openings to EU Sat and Sun were nice. One of
my "plans" was to turn the beam to JA & South Pac
late day. The first two time nada. Third time was the charm. It was a
great hour with no need to CQ. The sons of the rising sun came like a
wave after wave. Got to luv those 3 point Qs. My new super snappy RTTY
"log/grab/ESM" macro worked like a gold. At first 80 was hotter than 15
and Sat 3AM morn I had some super good runs. For 80 I shunt loaded the
tower. It only took me 3 days. Had purrrrfiect 1.0:1 in the RTTY segment
then wanted to make more perfect. Took another day to bring it back to
Puuurrrfect. Tested several times before use all good. Then the rains
came!!! A jury-rigged deal had enough SWR the KPA500 said no-way. Tuner
fix and 600 watts on 80. When all dried out back to Perfect.
All equipment work to spec. The AL-1200 loafed at 1300 watts...The SteppIR
showed 0 SWR. I did find a flaw. Was on 20M with the beam in BiDirection
and went to 40...SWR 9.9:1 AAAAAGG went to cal but saw the setup and had to
wait...once done went to normal and happyhappy. Only real problem was RF
EMI on PC and interface stuff. N1MM was super unstable sending the K3 to
super odd freqs. I logged several Qs at 11 and 14 gig??? I figured it
was 40M the problem so went to the 500 watt amp and all happy.
Outside of the RFI, my big problem is "time in chair". I can do a burst 5
or 6 hours then I need to too slow down break more often. My new break
routine is take the Lad for a walk then back at it. Sorry I'm not like
that /VP9 cyborg.
With the new 80M setup I'm ready for NAQP RTTY...Luv me some RTTY
