Hi Phil,

As David pointed out, it's being used as a propagation indicator. There are
no digital modes in the ARRL 10-Meter Contest.

Which brings up a question.  The rules on the ARRL website says SSB and CW
only.  Is FT8 or another digital mode allowed?
