ARRL BOD meeting update from Marty N6VI.
73, Larry N6NC
------------------------------

Here is the abridged version of this weekend’s ARRL Board meeting. The
official minutes may not be published for a week or two yet.

Rick Roderick was re-elected president on a 9-to-6 vote. The full election
results are now in the ARRL Web page.

As to the motions:

Norris made fewer than half his proposed motions. After discussion, one by
one they were withdrawn until none remained.

Lisenco, ended up not making any of his motions.

Abernethy moved to rescind the Code of Conduct, and Allen seconded. After
some discussion, it became apparent that they did not have enough votes to
pass it.

A compromise ensued in which the rescission motion was withdrawn and the
Carlson motion was expanded to: 1) allow directors to discuss their own
votes and those of other directors; and 2) suspend (not rescind) Section 8
of the Code, which had prohibited any pubic disagreement with Board
decisions. The Carlson motion passed, so the most objectionable segments
of the Code of Conduct are, for the time being, no longer in force.

Another motion passed that requires a fresh look at the Code (re-write or
wholesale replacement) to be presented at least 60 days before the July
Board meeting. That should mean the members will have a chance to see it
in mid- to late May.

We hope to have all this up on myARRLvoice.org soon with further updates as
they become available. We thank the many members and clubs for writing to
the Board and for helping spread the word that action was needed.

73,

Marty N6VI
