Agreed. And please try to be diplomatic when coaching others. Many are casual operators who are on to get some states during the contests. They may not have much if any experience in contesting. As you have undoubtedly read in various articles, a positive and fun experience can hook someone into contesting for life. You yourself probably experienced it when you got hooked. 

It can definitely be frustrating to get involved with someone not familiar with the protocol during the heat of a contest but again, be diplomatic and positive in your coaching. Otherwise, you risk the possibility of turning someone off to contesting forever. 

One of the better RTTY web sites out there in my opinion is AA5AU's rttycontesting.com It's a good place to send newcomers. Let's be encouraging in everything we do as Elmers and in our coaching.
