First the good news: The new station setup worked without a flaw!
Gone are the AL1200 the big crank box 3kw MFJ tuner and a manual band
switch. Replaced with the Elecraft tuner/band switch. My right arm/hand
reduced to mouse and a little keyboard. Since most station controls can be
done with 'MM at the keyboard very little need for right arm means reduced
pain is a godsend!!
Special thanks to K6ZZ for his help in reorganizing my station.
Band conditions:
No surprise there. I spent a lot of time checking 15...didn't want to miss
anything but nada. Since 20 was open west coast to EU on Friday I hoped
15 would show a little. Nope. QRN levels were insane. Better than 20 over
on 80 and 160. 40 not bad only S9+
Goals:
Outside of a boatload of Qs I wanted to fill out my 5 band WAS. Need DE
on 80 and 2 states on 160 for a 6 band. Hopes dashed.
Disappointments:
Time was...not long ago, I could do 4 to 6 hours no break. Now I can
hardly do 2 hours. So broke up operation with short breaks. One big
mistake!
Had bowl of chili and washed it down with a big glass of milk. I'm sure
some were listening in to hear me choke to death!!! Note no milk in SSB
contests.
Changes noted
There were a lot of calls not in the master database?? and I mean A LOT!
I'm thinking most were new to contesting and not in the data file.
