Comments:
Who wudda thunk it: I burned up my antler tuner using just 100W! Many folks
didn't seem to be listening for weak signals between their CQs,
especially those
from rarer sections and DX. I nominate C6AGU for "Best Ears" award. I
heard almost every section and those I didn't work, I never found CQing (other
than common ones like GA, SFL, and a couple others). A real surprise
was finding
JT1CO CQing before he was spotted; but I could not get through to him
this time.
My 49-foot tree wire gave a decent account of itself, however.
Forgot to mention this: FAR too many folks in other sections seemed
to be thinking "which section is he in, considering his call??",
instead of COPYING what they hear. I noticed the folks who got my
section right the first time were invariably old-time contesters,
while the newer contesters and DXers seemed to be trying to reconcile
K0XP with being in ORG section. Some of those folks took 2 or 3
minutes of repeated ORG ORG ORG ORG ORANGE ORG ORG to finally copy
it. I don't think signing /6 would have helped; I've done that before
and it didn't seem to help. Of course, though, more powah and a
better antler would help immensely... The same happened in the CQ WW
CW last year: 50 out of 159 QSOs (according to the log checker
report) got my zone incorrect as zone 4 because they did not listen
and copy it correctly as zone 3.
