I am selling my Ten-Tec Titan III Model 417 amplifier. This amp uses a pair of Russian GU-74 tetrodes (4CX800A) for a solid 1500 watts output on SSB, CW and RTTY. I have used this amp for about 10 years in many RTTY contests, and it puts out a solid 1500 watts without complaint. The tubes were replaced about five years ago with new old-stock tubes. Tubes are readily available from UR4LL for $140, and also from DX Engineering and other U.S. sources. The amp takes only about 60 watts of drive to put out 1500 watts.
There was a review of this amp in the June, 2004 issue of QST, and ARRL members can view it in the QST archive. I have downloaded that review and can send it to you if you are interested. I can also send a picture. The amp does QSK, but I have never used that feature.
The amp weighs about 80 pounds (50 of which is the transformer), and I really don’t want to ship it. If you are willing to drive to Yuma to pick it up, I will let it go for $1500. I’ll post it for sale in about a week on qth.com for $1800. There’s another advantage to picking it up in Yuma – We can fire it up and check it all out. Bring your favorite wattmeter, and we’ll try to blow it up!
