I think you have it Bob. Remember too that a lot of the more inexperienced guys will listen to your run frequency for a while to understand what is happening and what they should send back... I know I sure had to do that a lot. Now I just do it 98% of the time...

Thanks to all who responded to my question on cut numbers and their use in
sending "100 watts." (Re: in the upcoming ARRL DX CW Contest exchange using
power for DX stations.) They ranged from useful to "ban them!"

It is a topic that has two sides to it, for sure.

In a contests exchange, when you are EXPECTING to hear numbers and a number
is not sent, it can throw you off--unless, of course, cut numbers are
already in your instantly retrievable data set. It seems that THAT data set
takes some time to build up in one's mind, i.e. you must be an experienced
CW contester and have heard *a lot* of cut numbers before to be quick and
accurate at it.

Of all the suggestions I received there is one that seems a good compromise
I heard from several people. Sending "1 T T" for 100. The one digit is
expected and easily copied even by a casual operator and then the two T's
can easily be recognized as cut numbers for zeroes even with some delay in
thought processing (avoiding having to repeat.). I believe I've even heard
this one before too--1 T T. You hear it once, and you know it!

Best runner up: NN
Just be consistent, right?

Thanks again to all.

73,
Bob NC6Q
