Hi, all.
If you are not currently an AMSAT member, you can delete this without
reading it.
As an AMSAT life member for over thirty years, I am accustomed to going with
the flow in their elections and usually voting for incumbents, there
typically being few challengers. This year, however, there are five serious
and well-credentialed challengers and three incumbents running for four
seats. I received an informative e-mail from Bruce Perens K6BP, whom many
of you may know as a staunch open-source advocate. He is also a long-time,
strong supporter of both AMSAT and ARRL. Bruce pointed out some significant
controversies concerning the running of AMSAT that have given rise to this
major election challenge. You can read Bruce's article here:

I know two of the challengers personally and hold them both in high regard.
Michelle Thompson W5NYV has been leading the ground station project team for
the 5- and 10-GHz geostationary satellite program. She actively recruits
new Hams through such activities as exhibiting at the San Diego Maker
Faires, She has been a speaker and awardee at various Microwave Update
conferences. Oh, and she was one of our operators in CQWW from E51Z, CQ's
2011 Contest DXpedition of the Year.
Brennan Price N4QX was Chief Technology Officer for ARRL back when I was a
Vice Director. He was intimately familiar with the workings of the ITU and
the working groups that develop the positions and proposals that get voted
on at the World Radio Conferences (WRCs, formerly WARCs). Brennan was
generous with his time and clear in his explanations of some very complex
matters whenever I asked. He also served as a presenter at a nationwide
Microwave Update conference for which I was in charge of the program. His
knowledge and skills would, I believe, be of great benefit to AMSAT and its
mission.
Before you cast your ballot, I urge you to read Bruce's article and the
linked candidate information included therein as well as other candidate
statements that are a part of the ballot.
Please also pass this message on to other AMSAT members you know.
73,
Marty N6VI
