Hello all - I operated our "club station" in Goldfield, NV as KG7NV during WPX CW. I had anticipated that this was one of the few times when having that call in a contest would be a good thing (you can't imagine how many wrong versions of that call I've gotten on both CW and SSB during normal ops!)
The original plan was that Bud N7CW was going to join us here and we'd do a "major" effort for WPX - full power, 48 hours, 1-1/2 good ops (Bud = 1, me = 1/2), etc. But Bud was not able to come. So it was me, with 100 watts, a 3-element beam, wires on 40 and 80 in the middle of nowhere Nevada.
In looking back over scores from the past few years, I think mine is a competitive score for my entry class (LP, SO, Assisted, Tri-bander and Wires, All band). But year to year, one never knows.
I was amazed at the openings to EU on 20 - almost all day long. Like Jim W6YA said, this was a surprise considering the minimal sunspot activity!
One huge frustration: I did not get spotted the entire weekend, except for Ed AI6O who spotted me twice. Tnx, Ed!!
Be that as it may, here's my contribution to the SCCC scores for WPX CW. 73 - Jim, K6ZH
P.S. tnx to my long-suffering wife Joan, N6KIM, who had to put up with my radio activity all weekend!
