I was skeptical, at first; then I saw the smaller
ones, like the HP22er 22" and HP23er 23" (nothing
larger will fit in my homebrew shelf unit for the
new radio and amplifier) are only $100 and $130.
And they're all LED, none of those LCDs. So I
figured: what the Pelosi, and bit on a 22-incher
HP22er. (As it happens, I could have fit a 23er
in here.) It arrived within a couple of days,
before I was quite ready for it since I hadn't
finished building my new shelf unit for the equipment.
This afternoon, I finally got the radio, amp,
both tuners, and new monitor hooked up, just in
time to join the bedlam chasing VP8PJ. Shore
nuff, no problems with the monitor whatsoever,
even running 700 watts out on 160 through 30 into
a wire just 4 feet from the monitor. As far as I
can tell, the HP switching supply isn't radiating
any noise that I can hear (at least on the low
bands), and the monitor doesn't seem to know when
I'm transmitting. The resolution and clarity
aren't quite what I'd like, but then again, I'm
used to looking at my laptop screen over the past
few years. This thing has many more pixels and
whatnot than my old laptop display; it's just
that they're spread out more than I'm used to.
Gonna hafta get used to the monitor, as well as
doing neck exercises to ease having to look upward all the time now...
