I'm reposting this from the Cactus intertie reflector.
Might someone on this reflector have experience with planting towers in rock who could advise Jon? His contact info appears below.

Subject: [cactus-intertie] Widening the net - Tower installation in PHX
I first asked this on the local reflector, but didn't get any feedback.
I am about to have a new used house that is not in an HOA neighborhood,
and so will definitely need a tower. The hillside immediately behind me
is highly deformed metamorphic rock (slate, gneiss, schist) and I expect
most of the tower footing to be in this (relatively) hard rock. I'm
thinking a Rohn 45 GSR at 40', which has more than enough cross-section
to put nearly as many antennas as I could imagine. City of Phoenix seems
to have relatively moderate tower restrictions, less than 45' in height
appears exempt. My backyard is the Phoenix Mountain Park.
I've reviewed all the Rohn literature, and it certainly seems that this
tower will meet all my possible needs. Anyone with experience in carving
into hard rock and planting a tower? I would imagine, that under the
right circumstances, less concrete is possible because of the rock.
However, I'm looking for someone who can adequately engineer a solution
and then get it installed. If any of you know someone of that ilk,
please please let me know. A tower is crying to be born.
Please respond directly.
