I did the same thing many years ago moving to the suburbs of Las
Vegas.
I lived in Anaheim Hills, retired from Rockwell Intl Anaheim, MDC
Huntington Beach, then Boeing Anaheim after all the mergers. 

I didn't pass the Orange County mandatory Spanish language exam and
was deported to an English speaking Red state NV.
Now have the tower I couldn't have at Anaheim due to HOA. Have very
low property taxes, no state income tax, cheaper gas prices, no
traffic congestion. Miss my ham friends in CA but see you at Visalia.

Like many other Angelenos, I have recently reluctantly pulled up roots
from California, and fled to far-cheaper Arizona. I still have family
in California (how they can afford to stay there without robbing banks
is far beyond me) so I'll sneak back from time to time; thus, I wish
to be considered a "remote member" of SCCC, SCDXC and OCARC although
I've joined the "Outlaws", AOCC.
