I decided to tackle some remodeling work that I have been putting off at
the remote site this weekend. I did radio on breaks from the laboring
without much regard to strategy. I had some decent JA runs on 40, 15,
and 10. I didn't get on 15 or 10 either Saturday or Sunday morning. As a
result I didn't work any Europe on those bands with the exception of
LN8W who called me on 15 meters near the end of the contest. That was a
real surprise. I had the same thing happen with them on 40 meters (I am
starting to think them as the K3LR of Europe). Propagation was weird on
160 Saturday night. I couldn't get any traction with a number of
Caribbean stations and I noticed that my SALA receive antenna didn't
seem to have its usual directivity. This had me wondering if there was
some sort of high-angle mode in play where a cloud burner antenna would
have helped.
