Wow, that was humbling. The station worked perfectly, conditions seemed
really good, operator, uh.., not so much. Especially in the first hour,
it felt like I was in a mental fog. I was definitely not in the "zone".
It was more like the "anti-zone" where you have to think hard about
things that should flow naturally. The up-side was that I was able to
honor Kurt K7NV (SK) by using my club callsign, NI6W, which was a
callsign formerly held by Kurt. I know from following him on Facebook
that Kurt was a big proponent of "doing what needed to be done". For him
I think that often meant long hours toiling in the workshop to get a
prop-pitch order out the door. I'd like to think that he would have
approved of the fact that in this case I kept my butt in the chair and
did what needed to be done for the sake of my SCCC teammates. Somewhere
I have a picture of Kurt belted to the top of a Rohn 45 tower (I believe
it was at KH6YY). Kurt had a some sort of arc welder strapped to the
side of the tower along with tarp to shield him from the rain, so he
could weld despite the adverse conditions. Now that is the epitome of
"Doing what needs to be done"! RIP K7NV.

See you all next time.

73, Mike W4EF
