I'm still stuck in the 20th century, and don't have the vaguest idea
what a Slack channel is (although I've heard of the term). As for being
an administrator of such... I'm probly not a good candidate since my
internet connection is so precarious. I just finally got internet out
here in the desert but had to dump Boost Mobile and switch to T-Mobile
as Boost was non-responsive to our requests to unlock my old phone so it
could be set up as a hotspot. They did, however, release my phone number
so T-Mobile took that over. However, since Boost wouldn't unlock my
phone in a timely manner, I was forced into buying a new one from
T-Mobile, who then set it up. So I've now got a hotspot through my
phone, and am on internet using my laptop at long last from my new
spread. Unfortunately, it's not quite like Wifi in that the phone has to
be on and active in order that it functions as a hotspot. So from time
to time, it drops out, and that's what I mean about "precarious internet
access".
Obligatory contest content: Yes, indeed, 10m was chock full of South
Americans. For awhile on Sunday, while I was running, it seemed as if
every other caller was a PY of some variety (PU, PT, PW, etc.). Many of
the PUs were QRP, 5 watts. One said 1 watt; I bet he was ecstatic about
the QSO 8-). There were also lots of LUs, and even a half dozen or so
CEs. But I didn't catch any 8Rs and the one HR I heard was run off by an
extremely unruly pileup. I heard several HKs S&Ping but none ever called me.
The most interesting QSO, to me, was when a V7/KA4 called. No wonder I
had trouble copying him: he, too, was running very low power.
Fred, K3ZO, who became a Silent Key just a couple weeks ago, always
scribed a very interesting writeup and propagation analysis after his
contests, published with his score reports to the PVRC. I certainly wish
he had experienced this one; his report would have been one for the
ages, I'm sure. RIP, Fred; we will all miss hearing your moderate and
steady pacing throughout all the DX contests.
Steve, K0XP
