Summer is almost over, and the Sept VHF Contest is already here! The VHF contest begins at 1800z (11 AM) this Saturday,
and continues to 8PM Sunday night. The weather is going to be hot, making it a good day to stay inside in the air conditioning and get on the air. The hot sun is going to be brutal on the rovers, but I am up for the challenge.
My plans are tentative, and my best guess is that I will start in DM13 at Summit House in Fullerton, then over to
Shcurr High School in Montebello for DM04. Sunday I plan to start at Signal Hill for DM03, then maybe a brief stop
in Diamond Bar for DM14. Sunday afternoon I hope to make it to Wrightwood for more DM14. Thankfully, there are
no fires this year. If I remember, I will have APRS turned on, so you can follow me at www.aprs.fi<http://www.aprs.fi>. I think I am N6GP-10
I will be on the 4 lower bands 6 meters, 2m, 220 and 440. Remember that there is an analog only class for fixed stations. This rule change brought out a LOT of CW stations on 6m in June. People who like CW and SSB - please come back! My preference is for analog modes, but I will do FT8 when things are slow.
I generally only operate FT8 on 6m when trying to work distant stations.
My freqs: 50.130, 144.200, 432.1 SSB, 50.095, 144.195 and 432.095 CW, and 146.52 .55 .58 2m FM 223.5 FM and 446.0 FM
50.313 and 144.174 FT8.
I know that the 2nd week of NCAA Football is Saturday, and the first Sunday of the NFL season is also here, but if you could get on the air during the halftimes, that would be awesome.
N6UTC plans to be FM only, including the new rule change for 1.2 GHz. KX6A might be roving too.
With your help I finished 4th place overall in the Limited Rover class. With a good turnout, I hope to at least crack the top 10 again this year.
Be safe, have fun. 73,
de Tim N6GP
