Comments:

I had a bad start the night before when I was taking an inventory of my
equipment. My USB Hub for my laptop was missing! Its very important so I can
connect my CW, Digital, and Rig interfaces all at the same time. I went to my
local Staples at their rope drop at 10am to purchase a new one.

I arrived at Signal Peak in Newport Beach (DM13) with ample time to setup. From
the start, I could tell that there was a good amount of local activity, but
unfortunately, there was no sporadic E on 6m. I stayed for 3 hours because the
rate stayed up.

I took a brief lunch break at home, and headed to Schurr High School in
Montebello (DM04). Activity had dropped off by that time in the afternoon, which
is expected.

I made it up to Signal Hill DM03 by about 9:15am. An hour or so later I
started to see what I call "popcorn propagation" on 6m. It is just
grids that pop in for a few seconds, then disappear. Very frustrating, but I
managed to make a few QSOs into Texas and Alberta. Worked an ATNO grid AL1VE/R
in DN90. I stayed about 3 hours.

Took another short lunch, and went to Pantera Elementary in Diamond Bar for DM14
Activity really dried up, and the last hours of the contest were slow and
tedious. Managed to work Bill N6WS at his big gun station in DM95 on 2 meter
FT8! That was a thrill. Finished off the last hour at Diamond Bar Center to
re-visit DM13 to squeeze out a few more contacts.

The good:
Great local participation. This was the best turnout in years. Thank you, especially SCCC!

I worked a lot of closer in grids like DM05, DM06 and DM24. Never really done
that much before.

The bad:
6 meter propagation! Ugh!
CW QSOs down about 90% this year due to lack of openings
