On Field Day morning, we were driving the last leg of our 6,000-mile, 73-day road trip, by driving from Ely NV to Mammoth Lakes CA. My XYL and I had begun our road trip by attending the Visalia International DX convention on April 11 and continued northwest up the west coast of the US and Canada before heading back towards California. Shortly after 1800Z Saturday morning, we arrived at POTA park US-10834, Sand Springs West BLM Herd Management Area, in the middle of the Nevada desert. I put up my telescoping whip antenna on a mag mount on the roof of our SUV and using my home call, W6KC, operated 1C NV and made 40 FD/POTA QSOs in about 30 minutes. We then continued on to our 2nd home in Mammoth Lakes. Later in the evening, using my club call, W6ML, that I only use when we're in Mammoth Lakes, I operated 1E SJV and also made 40 QSOs. What a fun finish to our travels!
