Comments:
June VHF had terrible propagation last year, and the 6m propagation was spectacular this year for the contest. Not quite as good as 2023's propagation which even included short skip, but this was very good. I fell slightly short in beating my 2023 personal best.
Went to Summit House in Fullerton and worked locals for the first 30 minutes.Great to see KN6UWK active again from San Clemente Is. 30 minutes in 6 meters opened to the DN grids, and the opening stayed open for hours and hours. Nice to work some Texan stations on CW. Fun to work N4VWK on 6m SSB in North Carolina. He gave me a 55 report, so that hilltop is working.
Late in the afternoon I moved to DM14 and worked a lot of Pacific Northwest from there.
Sunday morning got to Signal Hill DM03 about 9am, and 6 meters was already open to a lot of places. Worked as far as Pennsylvania and VE3. Had the highest rate working locals around 1800z on 2, 222 and 440. I need to remember this for next year.
Went to DM04 late afternoon at a bad site for radio near the Hillcrest Elem. Found a much better location for next time north of the school. Fathers Day had already dampened activity, and rates were low. 6m closed too.
Drove to Signal Peak Newport beach to re-visit DM13, and that was productive working San Diego stations.
No Murphy problems. A little issue with the trackpad doing right click when I wanted left. Laptop gives about 10 second warning for shutdown. Need to check that more often. Need to update Supercheck partial file.
Thanks to the SCCC and the locals who came out to really make things fun!
Please consider getting on for the CQ VHF Analog Contest July 5 at 1200z for 24 hours. SSB, FM and CW only! Should be fun.
