I wasn't going to get in this one. I had some workers cleaning up my yard
on
Saturday and I spent the day supervising their work. They left at 2 pm and
I
decided to go out to the shack and listen around to the contest. There were
some nice multipliers on the band map and I picked off some of them. I
spent
some time calling CQ and was rewarded with a nice run of JA's. I was at
200/34
after a couple hours when I quit. The next morning I went out to the shack
not
expecting any good propagation due to the low SFI and high A index. The
band
opened nicely to Europe at 7:30 am and I started picking off stations on the
band map. As I was tuning I found a clear frequency on 28627 and called
CQ. I
was rewarded with a constant stream of callers from Europe for an hour and a
half. I have never had such a Europeans run before. It was exciting and
the
rate was much higher than the JA's. In the end I had more Europeans in the
log
than JA's. During the last hour it was very slow and I went to 20 and 15 to
pick up some multipliers using my 40 foot A3S which has an intermittent feed
line problem. I was able to make 35 contacts before the SWR went real
high. I
finished up the last few minutes on 10 meters with a couple contacts. I
usually
have a goal to work 100 countries on each band. I was a little short of
that. I
suspect I would have made that if I had operated on Friday night and
Saturday.
One thing nice about SSB is to have a short chat with people who stop by to
say
hi. I had a number of people stop by. My friend W6SX espouses the Prime
Directive which is to contest to have fun. I complied with his directive.
