Hello Peter.  I am assuming that you are referring to the AVIATION section of our Area Forecast Discussion?
On May 3, at 1803Z, this is what it said:
.AVIATION...03/1804Z.At 1720Z at KLAX, the marine layer was 3300 feet deep. The top ofthe inversion was around 4800 feet with a temperature of 13 C.
This means that the base or bottom of the inversion was at 3300 feet (which is the same as the marine layer depth).  This is the point, going up from the ground, that temperature starts to increase.  The top of the inversion was at 4800 feet.  This is the point, going from the base of the inversion up, that temperature starts to decrease with height once again.
I hope that helps.  If I misunderstood the question, please let me know.Have a nice day.

On 03may2025, I reviewed the KLAX aviation weather forecast for the time period of 17-18UTC. It stated that there was an inversion at 4000 ft.
What altitude would have been the top of the inversion, & what altitude would have been the bottom of the inversion? I could not figure that out from the forecast narrative. (I saved the utl, but only today’s forecast appears now!!)

In pursuit of my favorite amateur radio (ham) activity, I checked for temperature inversions because I would be operating on 900 & 1200 MHz from the top of Stunt rd in the Santa Monica Mts (2350’ MSL) to communicate with other hams. Weather in that spot was foggy, with mist, visibility about 100 ft, & calm winds.
I  communicated with stations in Palos Verdes, Thousand Oaks, & Ventura. I heard nil from a station in Van Nuys.
Please tell me anything available about this event which you can dredge from files.
Thanks!
