Mike, I ran the PC Health Care app to check that my laptop was adequate for W11.  The response was yes.  So I went ahead and upgraded to W11.  Seemed to go OK. I'm still struggling a bit with file locations and organization compared to W10.

So support from Microsoft Windows    owns 10 has stopped.

There are ways to convert ?non-complaint? motherboard.
There is even a ?not recommended? Microsoft provided method on the MS website.

What are you all doing about this?
Current PCs ok/compliant already?
New PCs?
Used a bypass / ?not recommended? method?

We are trying to decide if we should bite the bullet and buy 3-4 new computers.

I recently bought a WIN 11 minicomputer for about $250.? CPU has a
cpumark score of about 23,000, 16 GB ram, 512 GB SSD.? Black Friday is
coming up.? There should be a tone of deals.? Watch www.slickdeals.com

It works great on all modes with N1MM.? One limitation is that the only
sound input is mono mic.? If your rigs have a built-in sound CODECs,?
that's no problem.? If not, you can use a cheap usb sound device.

Some computers just need a BIOS update and or have their TPM modules enabled. Most manufacturers have info on their websites.

If the computer is too old to support the TPM requirements of windows 11 it should be replaced. Do not force Windows 11 to run on theses systems.

There are some workarounds to keep Windows 10 updates coming for another year or so.  Personally, I'm sticking with Windows 10.  I have more than enough experience working on discontinued windows versions over the years and I have zero desire to shell out for a new computer because Billy Gates tells me to.  I still have old laptops running Windows 7, for what that's worth.

For the light computing I do for work and the 20 year old games I play, my existing machine is more than sufficient.  I also have over 20 years in Corporate IT and the last 10 of those in System and Data Security, so I have better safeguards than the average user.

For my radio PC, N3FJP, 101 CATS (FTDX101 control program), and Com0Com all run on Windows 10.  FLDIGI is so old, it probably runs on Windows 95 still!  A VLAN that only connects out to the cloud logging and QRZ type sites will be more than sufficient security for that machine.

I am looking into Linux options as well.  I have two NUCs that came with 11 on it, back when you could still bypass the MS Store account creation, and I just use those for digi contesting and remote ops, so they don't even get updated.  The last update killed the audio right as Field Day started.  I'm not impressed with 11 and far from impressed with MS's ability to provide tested updates... much like HRD's latest release!
