K3S SPE 1.3K DXLog
Ant: A3S at 40 feet, 40-2CD at 8 feet (eight feet)

I haven't been active since last March because my antennas are all lowered.
I have an A3S on 40 feet of Rohn 25 but it had a feedline problem. I
climbed
the tower on Thursday morning and was able to repair the problem. This
isn't easy for 83 yrs but I got it done. I started in the contest with the
intention of just working multipliers to see if I could get 100 countries on
each band. The conditions were so good that I got sucked into operating
more
than I had planned. Ten meters was about the best I have experienced with
many
long distance zones being heard. Unfortunately I didn't have enough ERP to
get into zone 21 or 22. Those stations although very audible just CQed in
my
face. I spent too much time fruitlessly trying to get through. My drill
was to
S&P through a band using the bandmap to bypass stations I had already
worked. I did a little running when the band was open to Asia. I felt the
number of JA's were down this year compared to previous years. I went out
to my shack before sunrise on Sunday morning waiting for the high bands to
open.
Out of curiosity I tried making some contacts with my 40-2CD which is
sitting
at 8 feet above the ground Surprisingly I picked up 16 mults including
zones
1,3,25,28,30,31,and 32. It was a pleasant surprise. It was a lot of fun
with
really good conditions. 73, Kurt W6PH
