Monobanders at 15 feet or below

This is correct. I was handicapped in this one. I never got
my antennas up because of all the wet snow last week that
froze everything. My antennas are temporary on AB577
masts. I usually raise them on Tuesday or Wednesday
before the contest to check them out. This year we had 6
inches of very wet snow (very unusual for the high desert)
all week that froze all the tubes and cables under the snow.
I went into this contest with all my antennas at 15 feet or less.
I was going to blow off the contest but decided to give it a try.
I was very surprised how well the antennas worked at that
height.

Most of my contacts were S&P with the exception of Asia. I
avoided any pileups. I waited until there were few or none
calling. After several repeats I was able to get 5Z4VJ and
9G5ZZ to get my call on 40 meters. That was a high point.
Low antennas are very humbling.

Conditions went into the toilet on Sunday. There were no
Europeans on 10 meters except for a couple very weak
EA's that I had already worked. Fifteen meters was very
weak and a few Europeans were logged. So it was just
sweeping 20, 15, and 10 meters looking for new stations
to work. I was able to get runs going to JA in the last two
hours on all three bands.

Despite the conditions it was a lot of fun and I am glad
 participated.
